Map a Front and a Back to enable this

Step by step

1. Export your rows

Any delimited export works: comma, tab, semicolon or pipe, with quoted cells handled correctly.

2. Decide what goes on the back

Mochi cards have two sides. Columns you map to Example, Notes or Tags are appended to the back as Markdown, so nothing from your file is silently dropped.

3. Import into Mochi

In Mochi choose Import and pick the .mochi file. The deck name you set here becomes the deck name in Mochi.

When the import looks wrong

The back of the card looks cluttered

Set the columns you do not need to Ignore. Only mapped columns reach the card.

My Markdown formatting disappeared

Mochi renders Markdown, so asterisks and underscores in your source are interpreted. Escape them in the spreadsheet if you meant them literally.

A row turned into a divider

Three dashes on their own line separate the front from the back in Mochi's format. The converter escapes them, but avoid rows that are only dashes.

Nothing imported

Mochi expects the .mochi extension. If your browser saved it as .zip, rename it back.

FAQ

Questions about this converter

Find answers to common questions.

Is the CSV to Mochi converter free?

Yes, and there is no account. Mochi itself has a free tier that imports packages.

What is a .mochi file?

A zip containing a data.edn description of your decks and cards. This converter builds one in the browser.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Parsing and packaging happen in the tab.

Can I keep example sentences?

Yes. Map the column to Example and it is appended in italics under the answer.

Do tags work?

Columns mapped to Tags become hashtags at the end of the card back, which is how Mochi picks tags up.

How large a file can I convert?

Up to 5 MB and 20,000 cards, a limit that keeps the browser responsive.

No file to convert yet?

NextLang writes the cards for you: paste any text and get a deck with translations and example sentences, ready for the same import.
