Step by step

1. Export your rows

In Google Sheets or Excel choose File, Download, Comma-separated values. Any delimiter works: the converter reads tabs, commas, semicolons and pipes.

2. Map the columns

The first two columns become Front and Back by default. Point any other column at Example, Notes or Tags, or set it to Ignore to leave it out of the deck.

3. Download and import

Download the .apkg file, then double-click it, or in Anki use File, Import. The deck name you typed here is the name Anki shows.

When the import looks wrong

Everything landed in one field

The column separator is wrong. Change it above and watch the preview: when it is right, each card shows two distinct sides.

The first card is your header row

Tick First row is a header. The converter only guesses a header when the first row uses familiar names like Front, Term or Translation.

Half the cards are missing

Rows without both a front and a back are skipped on purpose, since Anki cannot show a one-sided card. Check for empty cells in the source file.

Commas inside a sentence split the card

Quote the cell in your spreadsheet export ("one, two") and the converter keeps it whole.

Is the CSV to Anki converter free?

Yes. There is no signup and no credit. The conversion happens in your browser, so it costs us nothing to run.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read, parsed and packaged inside the browser tab. It never reaches a server, which is also why it works offline once the page has loaded.

Which delimiters are supported?

Tab, comma, semicolon and pipe, with quoted cells handled properly. The converter guesses the delimiter and you can override it.

Can I add tags to the cards?

Yes. Point a column at Tags and its values, separated by spaces or commas, become native Anki tags rather than a visible field.

How many cards can I convert at once?

Up to 20,000 notes and files up to 5 MB. The limit exists so the browser tab stays responsive, not to push you toward an account.

Which note type does the deck use?

A NextLang note type built from the fields you mapped: Front and Back, plus Example and Notes when you use them. It imports cleanly into a fresh or existing collection.
