Step by step

1. Export the deck from Anki

In Anki right-click the deck, choose Export, and pick Anki Deck Package. Both the current format and the older one work here.

2. Choose the fields

Anki note types can have many fields. The converter lists the real field names from your deck so you can decide what Mochi shows on each side.

3. Import into Mochi

Download the .mochi package and import it in Mochi. Card text arrives as Markdown, with HTML from Anki stripped.

When the import looks wrong

Audio and images are missing

They are. A .mochi package could carry media, but this converter only moves text, and it tells you how many media files the deck contained.

Some notes were skipped

Decks that mix note types are reduced to the most common one, and the converter reports how many notes it left out.

Cloze cards look odd

Anki cloze deletions use a different syntax from Mochi's. They arrive as plain text and need editing.

The file will not open

Very old or corrupted exports can fail. Re-export from Anki and try again.

Does this need Anki installed?

No. The .apkg is opened in your browser with an in-page SQLite engine.

Does it work with new Anki exports?

Yes. Both the legacy collection and the newer compressed one are supported, so the Support older Anki versions checkbox is optional.

Is my deck uploaded?

No. The file is read locally and never leaves the tab.

Will my review history transfer?

No. Only the cards move. Mochi schedules them from scratch.

How big a deck can I convert?

Up to 5 MB and 20,000 notes.

Can I go the other way?

Not yet. The .apkg builder here writes decks generated on NextLang, and a Mochi to Anki converter is not part of this set.
